Reader x Levi - AU!Mr. Ackerman P6

A feather tickles your nose and heat radiates from something behind you. Upon trying to sit up, you find an arm slung over your midsection. The arm connects to a shoulder that is part of a well-built torso that makes up Levi’s chest.

“Levi!” you screech, jumping from the mattress. If he wasn’t injured, you would have slapped him so hard he would had a red outline of your hand on his cheek for months. You boil with anger as he stirs and mumbles. Finally, he wakes up and blinks a few times before looking at you.

He smacks his lips together and runs a hand through his messy hair. “God, woman, you’re going to break my fucking ear drums, what is it?”

Your jaw drops. “We’re not married! Hell, we’re not even in a relationship. It’s not right to sleep together!”

Levi’s eyes rake up and down your figure, making you feel as if you were not wearing his shirt. “What time is it?”

“I don’t care the time! I need an explanation for everything. Why and how were you injured? What the hell were you doing… cradling me?” Your cheeks flare with colour at the thought of his arms around you again.

“So you don’t care about your job then? Because we’re going to be late for spirit day at this rate.”

When the words fly out of his mouth, your professional side takes control of your brain and sends you into a frantic furry. “Good Lord! We need to go. Now! I need to get home and shower and change and get my things and coffee. And we cannot be seen together, do you understand?”

You pause to breathe and find that Levi is simply watching you with wide eyes and trying not to laugh.

         “What is so damn funny?”

“You’re wasting more time as you speak. Now, I don’t know about you, but I will be going to shower and change for the day. You can find an old spirit shirt day in the drawer. Coffee machine is by the window and don’t you have a spare makeup bag in your desk at school?”

Yes, you did have an extra toiletry bag waiting at the school in case of emergencies, but you could not believe the way Levi was acting. It was as if yesterday had not happened at all! Levi walks past you to the bathroom and his scent wafts into your nose.

Why does he smell like something comforting? you ask yourself, looking into the distance.

“We leave in ten minutes!” he calls over the running water.

         “Shit!”

Your heels click against the tiled floors of the hallway. The papers in your hands fly away only to land behind you, causing you or Levi to retrieve them from the ground. As you bend to grab on of Eren’s graded quizzes, Levi crouches to grab the paper. You don’t see him until the last moment, causing the two of you to knock your skulls together.

“Ow!” you hiss while you fall back on your behind.

Levi holds a hand to his forehead. He opens his eyes and sees you on the deserted ground. He chuckles and offers you a hand. “We’re really late now that you’ve decided to clean the floor with your ass.”

Frowning, you place your hand in his and try to stand. You do not notice the yellow sign saying the ground had been freshly cleaned until Levi has slipped and is holding his weight above you. “Hello there,” he whispers with a musky accent.

You growl and try to push his body off you. After a moment, Levi stands without falling and helps you up properly. His fingers entwine with yours as he pulls you upwards. He looks into your eyes for the short duration of moment you look back. After that, you turn away quickly and pray the hairs on the back of your neck are not as obvious as the blush on your cheeks.

“I must get to class now that I’m already late.” With that, you click your way towards your classroom. Your eyes widen when you see the majority of the children giggling from the doorway. “Back inside. I refuse to hear of any snickering and should I see any note passing, you will be writing essays in detention. Did I make myself clear?”

Everyone in the classroom smirks, giving you an odd feeling in the pit of your stomach. “Yes Miss Ackerman.”

The moment you glare at them, the students scatter and run for their seats.

“Right, now is the time to leave if you are participating in the talent show to go ahead and get going for the set up. Otherwise, please continue working on the assignment. I’ll go stop by Mr. Ackerman’s classroom to see if he can take you all in for the movie while I go for the early call.”

Three students, Eren, Mikasa, and Jean all stand and leave the classroom while the rest continue to scratch their pencils against the handout. You follow them and then stop at the doorway of Levi’s room. After knocking twice on the wood, you clear your throat and speak. “Hey, I have to go to the show, mind taking my kids for the first part of the movie?”

He places his pen down and offers you a confused expression. “You’re in the talent show?”

         You nod silently.

He huffs and nods. “Bring them in, I’ll set up the movie and get it started.”

Levi nods and offers you the smallest of smiles. You see a sparkle shine in his eyes for a split second. Your heart skips a beat as he opens his mouth.

“Good luck. With whatever you’re doing. An-” he is cut off by a hoard of  students running into the classroom and meeting up with their friends.

“You better get going or else you’ll be late,” he adds, turning his attention back to his computer.

“Mr. Ackerman, who do you want to win from the student’s portion?” Armin asks you. “Mikasa and Eren’s self defense act was really good, don’t you think? They have a good fighting chance against the other groups.”

Levi shrugs. “Don’t know, don’t care really.”

The lights dim again and you look upwards. “I thought we were finished with the talent show and were only waiting for the winners to be announced.”

Armin shakes his head. “Teacher’s part. Miss (L/n) is going first.”

Levi raises an eyebrow. “She plays the violin?” When the hell did she get the time to get a violin with her on the way here?

A spotlight appears on the stage. “Look, here she comes.”

You take a deep breath and begin to play. The notes that play echo off the theatre wall  and shatter everyone’s hearts. The piece goes on and at one point your eyes lock with yours. In the moment, you see the glint of tears forming in his grey orbs. With that, you can see all of the pain and sadness Levi had seen in his lifetime.

The music resonates and you move with the melody. You play for all the new people you’ve lost and known from your past. You play for the new people you’ve met and wish them the best. And most of all, you play for Levi. His demons still haunt him and don’t offer him an easy life. You can’t even try to understand.

In the audience, Levi swallows hard. The second the two of you shared gazes, he knew you had seen his agony from the past. He would have a lot of explaining to do the moment the two of you were alone. But would you believe him? Or would you turn away in disgust, knowing what he had done all those years ago.

It isn’t long before Levi melts into the music and becomes one with the chords. His troubles are lifted and his pain is forgotten. In the spur of the moment, Levi looks down at his hands and suddenly sees his pale skin stained with crimson. He shakes his head violently, trying to shake the memory from his eyes. The dark-haired man has no such luck and stands from his chair only to run out of the theatre just as you finish the piece.

You open your eyes and search for Levi. But he is gone. And the room is still and silent. Suddenly, everyone breaks out into applause. After bowing deeply at the waist, you click your way off the stage and allow the next professor to present their talent.

Forgetting completely about the show, you close your instrument in its case and exit the theatre from the back. Your mind is set on finding Levi. It’s not long after you find him sitting in the teacher’s lounge and sipping from a large mug.

“What did you think?” you ask, taking a seat across from him.

He hides his eyes from yours and looks only into the swirling liquid under his nose. “Not half bad, princess,” he says to the tea. “Where’d you learn to play like that?”

Trilling your fingers on the table, you respond, “Childhood. I took lessons everyday without fail and never forgot how to play.” You take a deep breath. “Why did you leave?”

“What is this, an interrogation back-to-back?”

“You got up during my piece and just left as if you were angered by the music.”

“On the contrary, princess, I actually enjoyed the tune. It’s just… been a while since I’ve heard the Chopin’s Nocturne in C-Sharp Minor. It gives me memories of things better left in the past. Understand?”

Levi takes an uneasy sip of the tea.

“I want to know about it. Your past. You say you trust me and I want to know. Especially with the stab wound and the beating up. You’re a teacher for crying out loud! Teachers don’t have lives filled with danger like that.”

His eyes flicker up and meet yours. “Then be prepared to meet the monster that lives inside of me.”

You sit with your legs crossed on Levi’s bed and papers to grade in your hands. Levi promised he would tell you everything after he finished his own stack of papers. Every so often, he’ll mumble a phrase of words about his student’s work.

“You can’t just make up shit, you little brat! Napoleon was not fucking Marie Antoinette and decided to take over Russia in the winter for her! Where the fuck did this information come from?”

You giggle, causing him to shoot you a menacing glare.

“And you, you little shit can’t use red pen on a test! I don’t know how many times I’ve said this.”

He throws the page onto the floor to collect into a pile.

“Yes, finally someone with at least half a brain that isn’t a dimwit. Well done.” His pen draws a large F on the top of the page and then Levi continues to write with the fat marker.

“You say their work is good, yet you give them an F?”

Levi chuckles. “Try to scare them. Look.” He tilts the paper towards you. Fantastic job. A.

         “Now that’s just evil.”

A few minutes pass and he starts to mumble again. “Fuck this, they’re all idiots and they’re all fucked! I told them to study over the weekend, but instead half of them with their air-filled brains think they can get away with using red pen. I should just give everyone who uses that colour an F and call it a day.” After Levi has finished his rant, he sets the papers on his nightstand. “I’ll suppose you want a story time now, don’t you?”

You nod and cap your own pen. “Yes, please.”
